Twiggy shot to fame in 1966 at the age of just 16, becoming known worldwide for her slim figure, long legs and eyes. Yet, 50 years later, who would have predicted that Twiggy would still be one of the most successful women in the fashion industry?
At 66 years old, the model’s career shows no sign of slowing down as she’s celebrated this milestone by designing a range of clothes aimed at women of all ages. Making it Twiggy’s 15th collection for the high street retailer, M&S, to help mature women stay on trend.
‘My new spring collection is a continuation of what we’ve been designing over the last four years,’ she said. ‘My main objective is to produce a range of stylish, affordable, fun, well-made clothes for every woman. I’m very particular about fabric and cut as well as the actual design. I think the new spring collection is also very wearable, whatever age you are.’
With some major trends this season including tribal prints, khaki as well as Seventies come-backs; Twiggy has designed her Spring collection with this in mind. ‘As I always say: I don’t believe in clothes ageism,’ she added. ‘I think it’s good to find a style that suits you and you feel comfortable with; no one wants to be a fashion victim. But it’s also fun to experiment with new things – so be brave. I recently gave a friend a pair of my skinny jeans – as she swore she couldn’t wear them – and she absolutely loved them and has found a whole new look.’
In addition to modelling, Twiggy has starred on Broadway, filmed several documentaries, and featured in many acting projects. ‘I’d also love to do another album – my last one “Romantically Yours” was a joy to record being songs from the Thirties, Forties and Sixties’.
