The benefits of using Jamaican Black Castor Oil

It is not often that black women, in particular, can find a hair product that benefits them or even improves the overall health of their hair. There are many oils and hair moisturizers that fail to give the desired effect. Well, look no further because Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) works wonders for the scalp and hair growth!

What is it?

JBCO is derived from Jamaican castor beans. The substance is as thick as honey and is a dark brown hue. It is known for aiding hair growth and hydrating the hair follicles by locking in moisture. The rich color of the oil is a result of the ash build-up from roasting the Jamaican castor beans. It is due to the ash that JBCO has growth properties. Additionally, normal castor oil contains a mix of proteins, vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Therefore with the inclusion of the ash, JBCO is seen as more effective.

Benefits of using JBCO

While JBCO is not scientifically proven to aid hair growth it works like any other oil, hydrating the hair follicles. This means fewer split ends and breakage which will allow hair growth. Furthermore, while mainly people with Afro-Caribbean hair or even just curly hair use this product it works for all hair types. More benefits include:

  • Treats dandruff (many people suffer from dry-scalp so this is perfect for soothing the possible itchiness)
  • Treats acne
  • Relieves muscle pain
  • Treats eczema
  • Increases blood flow (increased by massaging the oil into your scalp)
