Last summer, the trend for sun-kissed skin kicked off as many major beauty brands brought out products to help men and women create their own faux freckles. But this year, the trend has gone one step further. Instagram is being flooded with countless images of beauty enthusiasts covering their faces in brightly coloured dots, recreating faux freckles in the most unique way.
The trend was started by beauty YouTuber Batalash Beauty, otherwise known as Dominique, who made a video makeup tutorial featuring these rainbow freckles. Continuing to pioneer the craze, Dominique has also shared numerous rainbow freckled selfies on Instagram, giving her fans inspiration on how they can recreate the look.
The look is achieved by applying liquid lipstick onto the back of the hand, before painting the lipstick precisely onto the face with a concealer brush. By using the hand as a palette, lipstick shades can be mixed to create the desired rainbow effect. To create a more ‘natural’ look, Dominique recommends a mixture of 20% large freckles, 30% medium and 50% small. To make the freckles last longer, the beauty guru suggests applying a translucent powder over the top.
Although the craze might be too extreme for everyday wear, we’re hoping the rainbow freckle trend will soon make its way out of Instagram and onto the catwalk.
