Billie Jacobina is one of this season’s Fashion Scout Ones To Watch award winners. After graduating from UCA Rochester, Billie went on to win the Graduate Fashion Week Residency Award in Jakarta.
She brought, bright colours, sparkle and a fun vibe, with models walking down the runway to soundtrack “Freak Like Me”. The SS17 collection is a blend of traditional techniques and contemporary details. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland, Billie has created her own story of a little lost mermaid called Luna, who finds herself in an underwater wonderland of her own, the characters she meets made to base for each look within this collection. Billie wants her audience to feel as if they are ‘Luna’ going through the journey and they meet these characters, and the contemporary twists in the textile techniques used seem to inspire her collection title, ‘C-LYF’.
Dramatic and certainly a head turner, from the opening look to the final piece the collection is perfect for the fashion forward girl who isn’t afraid to be the one causing conversation in a room. Sticking to her inspiration Billie’s use of holographic textures mirrored the scales of a fish and other sea-like creatures appeared in abstract jellyfish embroidery and subtle colourful octopus prints. The fur and wigs add that much more drama to the whole collection, giving it sass and edge!
