With December fast approaching, one of winter’s biggest challenges is finding the perfect fake tan which doesn’t look ridiculous on your newly pale skin. Whilst many of us choose to cover up at this time of year, there are still a few brave souls who dare to show off their tanned skin. So to offer a helping hand, we’ve put together a list of five subtle and reliable fake tanners to get us through these winter months.

Garnier Summer Body Lotion, £5.49

Garnier’s Summer Body Lotion is not only the most affordable of these tanners, but is also the easiest to use and provides the most subtle tan. This moisturising formula is great for those who are after a hint of a healthy glow but don’t have the time or budget to spend bronzing up every other day. Simply apply with your fingers onto clean skin to enjoy a beautifully subtle tan all year round (just make sure to wash your hands after use to avoid orange staining!).

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, £13.99

This one’s not so much of a tanner, but makeup for your legs. This waterproof product is perfect for those times when you want to get your legs out but don’t want to spend time tanning your entire body. Smoothing over uneven skin tone and discolouration, Airbrush Legs provides an adaptable amount of coverage to suit everyone’s needs. The trick to using this product is to mix it with your everyday moisturiser to tailor the amount of coverage you desire. And voila! Perfect legs every time.

He-Shi One Day Tan, £14.50

This super-fast drying tanner is a one day wash-off wonder, with fans including Sienna Miller and Christine Blakely. We all know that tanning is a chore, and many of us dread the part where you have to frantically fan your body in order to get your tan to dry faster so you can continue with your day. So what if we told you there was a fake tanner that dries in minutes? Too good to be true? One Day Tan is a non-sticky gel bronzer which gives a healthy golden glow. With no active tanning ingredients, this bronzer is not only easy to wash off at the end of the day, but also doesn’t have that strange fake tan scent you get with a lot of other tanners.

Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning for Face and Décolleté, £20.00

Kicking us off with the pricier products we have Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning. This one is specifically designed for the face and leaves a moisturised non-greasy finish. This tanner is a great alternative to powdered bronzers, which can sometimes look heavy and unnatural on the skin. With a water-like consistency, apply a thin layer using a cotton pad to achieve a natural looking radiant tan. For a darker tan simply add another layer (or as many as desired), and you can look like a bronzes Goddess all year round.

Fake Bake Flawless Self Tan Liquid, £23.00

Finally, we have the most luxurious self tanning product. This may be the most expensive tanner in this list, but it is also one of the most fool proof. Flawless Self Tan Liquid is a liquid spray which add a light silky layer of natural colour onto the skin. The ‘see where it goes’ formula makes it impossible to streak, and with buildable coverage you can apply as little or as much as you desire. This bronzer is definitely worth the price tag!
