The BRIT Awards might be 40, but they have never been younger before.
As music evolves, we look back at a few years ago just to realize that last night, the stage was full of young, new faces that now have on their shoulder the weight of the new pop music culture.
Music is in continuous evolution and we happily noticed that many of the British nominees, including Dave, winner of Best Album with Psychodrama, have broken records and sold manyalbums, while releasing their music independently.
Despite having the same issue at the Oscars, the Brits is also facing some controversy too about the lack of women nominees in the mixed categories, where apparently only Mabel was considered worthy of inclusion.
Interviewed on the issue, the CEO of the Brits, Geoff Taylor, simplified the argument saying that male artists just had a better year and that the awards are a real mirror and reflection of what actually goes on in the business.
Sadly enough, he had a point. In 2019 only 20% of artists that were able to get a recording contract were women, which means that not many female artists had the chance to bring their music to big stages.
Style-wise Brit Awards never disappoint. We witnessed some amazing fashion moments with Harry Styles in the spotlight for his three amazing looks throughout the night. Here are our favorites:
JACK WHITEHALL
The third-time Brits host was extremely elegant in his satin black tuxedo.
The British comedian opened the ceremony with a heartfelt tribute to Caroline Flack, who tragically passed away a few days ago by taking her own life. Many guests at the O2 Arena were good friends with Caroline and still shaken-up from the horrible event.
BILLIE EILISH
The singer, winner of the Best International Female Award, stayed true to her style and wore a head-to-toe Burberry outfit, including a version of the classic Burberry trench and checked socks. The look was completed by Tiffany Jewellery.
HARRY STYLES
Harry Styles first Brit Awards as a solo artist have been a slideshow of epic fashion moments. He and his stylist Harry Lambert managed to put together three incredible looks for the night:
For the Red Carpet, Harry wore a brown Gucci suit with a purple sweater, a Broderie Anglaise collared shirt, a pearl necklace, and some very interesting Mary Jane shoes. The singer added a black ribbon on his lapel, in memory of Caroline Flack, his friend and past love-interest.
For his live performance of Falling, Styles chose an amazing white lace jumpsuit with lace gloves by Gucci. The singer wore it barefoot on the stage. We can surely state that this look will be entering by default in the Hall of Fame of the Brit Awards looks.
Last but not least, for the rest of the night the British performer chose a bright yellow suit by Marc Jacobs, with a lilac foulard around his neck. The look comes from the brand’s women collection and it’s a further statement on how Harry Styles loves playing with gender neutrality when it comes to fashion choices. Absolutely stunning!
LIZZO
The Queen made her statement and we are all obsessed with it! The incredible performer arrived on the Red Carpet in a custom-made Moschino brown gown, inspired by a chocolate-wrapper. She looked absolutely wonderful in the no-shoulder garment, and the look was completed by a brown glittery chocolate-inspired clutch. Just incredible!
STORMZY
The British rapper won the prize as Best Male Artist and he wowed us with his all-white Dior look on the Red Carpet. The singer later in the night switched up his look for the black version during his live performance.
ELLIE GOULDING
The singer looked stunning in this colorful form-fitting cut-out gown by Koche. The look was strong and she paired it with simple black heels and Maria Tash diamond earrings.
CELESTE
The winner of the Rising Star Awards looked very retro on the Red Carpet in her 1920’s inspired Gucci look. She chose a cream white midi dress with silver embellishments and black lace gloves with matching socks.
CHARLIE XCX
The songwriter went extra-glamorous on the Red Carpet as she chose a black long tulle gown by Fendi, paired with classic black pumps and a sparkling diamond choker.
MAYA YAMA
The radio presenter chose a stunning off-the-shoulder black gown by Alonuko Bespoke paired with long black gloves, Jimmy Choo pumps and a stunning diamond clutch by Bulgari.
MABEL
The winner of the Best Female Artist Award chose red on the Red Carpet! The singer wore an amazing custom-made Moschino by Jeremy Scott red sequins strapless gown, with a statement bow around the waist. The look was completed with Chopard jewelry.
