Anyone For A Slush Facial?

Ever thought about how effective your nail polish remover ingredients might be in a facial? We thought not, until now. Since Kendall and Kylie stamped their seal of approval on the slush facial, it has received much media attention as being the go-to acne treatment. So, we thought we would investigate…from a safe distance of course!

Slush facials do not involve slapping a load of crushed strawberry ice on your cheeks – it’s actually a little scarier.

Dermatologists use dry ice and acetone to cleanse, exfoliate and brighten the skin. On the off chance anyone reading this has ran out of exfoliator and is looking out the corner of their eye at the bottle of nail polish remover – we stress that this should never be tried at home!

The hype surrounding this facial began when celebrity dermatologist Christie Kidd appeared on Khloe Kardashian’s show, Revenge Body, providing a patient with a similar treatment. The procedure Christie Kidd performed involved dry ice dipped in liquid nitrogen to treat acne-prone skin. Christie stated that both Kendall and Kylie are fans of the treatment. Slush facials are said to unclog pores, treat acne, soothe and transform the complexion into one of clear radiance. This is looking better by the second!

Holly Buchko, a nurse practitioner from Coast Dermatology Centre, California (a leading cosmetic treatment centre) told Marie Claire magazine:

“Our acne slush treatment begins with a cool exfoliation of the surface of the skin with dry ice wrapped in gauze and dipped in acetone. This serves to clean the surface of the skin, remove excess oils, and remove makeup. It also decreases skin bacteria and can help calm the inflammation associated with acne.”

Coast Dermatology Centre consider slush facials to be beneficial for any patient and can even be combined with glycolic acid to tackle a variety of concerns and improve the skin’s overall condition.

Before having this procedure, a licensed practitioner would assess your skin sensitivity and type to ascertain which treatment is right for you.

The slush facial can only be performed once every four weeks.
