Find Out Who Won At Last Night’s Bafta Awards

Celebrities and royalty dazzled at last night’s 70th British Academy Film and Television Awards (Baftas) which took place at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Read on to find out who (other than the obvious La La Land) went home smiling.

1.La La Land

As predicted, La La Land swept up the majority of the awards, receiving 5 trophies, in particularly, best film!

The much-appraised La La Land (which has already won the most golden globes) was nominated for 11 Baftas in total. The film also won cinematography, best director (Damien Chazelle), best original music.

Emma Stone shone last night, winning best actress. She was up against phenomenal actresses including Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Meryl Strep and Natalie Portman.

In keeping with the theme of the evening, Miss Stone mentioned the state of current affairs saying:

“In a time that’s so divisive, I think it’s so special we were able to come together tonight thanks to Bafta, to celebrate the positive gift of creativity and how it can transcend borders and how it can help people to feel a little less alone.”

2.Lion

Nicole Kidman’s Lion received success with Dev Patel winning best supporting actor. He starred alongside Nicole Kidman and said of the film, “It’s about a love that transcends border, race, colour, anything.”

The drama Lion was also named as best adapted screenplay, triumphing over Moonlight.

3.I, Daniel Blake

It was an incredible night for Ken Loach’s I. Daniel Blake which was given the title of most outstanding British film.

4.Manchester by the Sea

Casey Affleck was given the title of best actor for Manchester by the Sea. He appeared a little nervous and in awe of his win stating, “The room looks very different from here. My heart is beating. “This drama was also named as the best original screenplay.

5.Fences

It was a fabulous night for Viola Davis, as she won best supporting actress for Fences.

6.Arrival

Although the sci-fi Arrival was nominated for 9 Baftas, it sadly only won one, for best sound.

7.Under The Shadow

The horror film was awarded Outstanding Debut.

8.Film Not In The English Language

This award was scooped by Son of Saul.

9.Documentary

The winner of best documentary went to 13th.

10.Best Animated Film

It must have been a close call against the much-loved Finding Dory, but Kubo and the Two Strings won this award.

11.Editing

This award was given to the tear-jerking film Hacksaw Ridge.

12.Makeup And Hair

Up against the likes of Dr. Strange, and Rogue One, this award offered tough competition. However, it was scooped by Florence Foster Jenkins.

13.Academy Fellowship Award

The duke whom is president of Bafta, awarded the fellowship to veteran actor and comedian Mel Brooks.

14.EE Rising Star Award

Tom Holland won best rising star award, of which was the only award to be voted for by the public.
