Many of us will be looking forward to seeing the back of 2016. However, this year has been particularly bad for celebrities as almost every other month we’ve mourned the loss of an icon. Here are some of the much-loved stars we have lost this year:
1.Our Star Man, David Bowie
In January this year the world shook at the announcement of music legend David Bowie’s death. Behind the scenes the greatly-loved star had died following an 18-month battle with cancer. The huge loss sent shock waves that were universally felt and marked the beginning of a sorrowful year.
2.Sir Terry Wogan
January was full of bad surprises as we grieved the loss of the amazing kind heart of radio broadcaster, Sir Terry Wogan.
3.Glen Frey and Alan Rickman
January saw no signs of relief as we had to say goodbye to the legendary Eagles frontman glen Frey, and well-loved actor, Alan Rickman.
4.Harper Lee (To Kill A Mockingbird)
The literary classic, To Kill a Mockingbird is in every student’s reading list. This profoundly thought-inspiring book will open the eyes of millions for many years to come. Sadly, in February the world lost an iconic author who can never be replaced.
5.Ronnie Corbet
The Last of the Two Ronnie’s star, Ronnie Corbet, died in March. The much-loved comedy duo had for many years, brought smiles and laughter to every household in Britain.
6.Paul Daniels
Paul Daniels opened the door to the concept of magic, bringing a lifetime of fun and mystery to entire families. Through the use of magic tricks and sayings such as, ‘You’ll like this, not a lot,’ he will never be forgotten.
7.Prince
World-renowned singer and songwriter Prince – a music icon who fought for musical freedom, was found dead in April this year. He died from an overdose of fentanyl.
8.Muhammad Ali
This year we lost a true boxing legend, Muhammad Ali – one of the greatest figures in the sporting industry. He died from septic shock, aged 74. Muhammad Ali was considered a king in the sporting world. This amazing man will always be remembered.
