We moaned about the non-summer, we’ve yearned to wear our summer dresses and feel the heat – and boy, were our prayers heard. With temperatures soaring higher than a summer’s day in L.A, we are here to help – people, it’s time to chill out.
1.Freeze A Sponge- This little trick has several possible benefits. Firstly, soak a sponge then put it in a sealable bag and place in the freezer for a couple of hours. Once frozen, the sponge can work as a great ice pack to cool your body, or even to keep your packed lunch nice and cool.
2.Take A Cold Shower
No, this isn’t intended to calm your hormones – it has other benefits. A cold shower will rejuvenate your skin, act as an anti-inflammatory, and ward off that dreaded muggy feeling when you hit the bedroom.
3.Buy Multiple Fans For Your Bedroom- Buy the most powerful fans you can possibly find, position around your house, particularly in the bedroom. The heat will not win!
4.Put your mattress Under Your Window- If you haven’t got an especially powerful fan, take your mattress and position it strategically underneath the biggest window in your house (not forgetting to open it). Then take comfort in the small mercy that we do not have a mosquito epidemic in the UK.
5.Don’t Use Sheets, And Use A Silk Pillowcase
Not using sheets is obvious, (hopefully) but a silk pillowcase is not. Silk is a natural heat regulator, and will therefore help you to regulate heat.
6.Sleep Alone- This doesn’t sound like a fun way to spend the night, but it can be the more comfortable option. Body heat from your lover, or pet, will exasperate the hotter than the fire of hell feeling that stops us from getting any sleep!
7.If All Else Fails- If all of these options fail, nip to the travel agents and jet off on a snowboarding venture to chill out for a week. However, if you have as much chance of escaping work as you do the heat, get yourself a paddling pool, fill it with ice and invite your friends around.
