For the tenth year the Baftas were held at the Royal Opera House, Convent Garden. The film, The Revenant, slayed at Sunday night’s Baftas winning best film, whilst the films’ star Leonardo DiCaprio won best actor, and Alejandro G Inarritu, best director. Like the evening couldn’t get any better, Tom Cruise presented the best film award to The Revenant. Upon winning, director Alejandro said that Leonardo’s commitment and talent had kept the film ‘breathing.’ Aged 41, it is mind-boggling that DiCaprio has never before won a Bafta.
DiCpario took the opportunity to thank his mum in particular, for spending three hours each day driving him to various acting schools and showing him the possibilities. Of Leonardo’s fantastic domination of the Bafta’s, Matt Damon stated that, “He is my friend – I am happy for him.’ Although defeated on Valentine’s Day, you still get our love! Meanwhile the awesome action movie, Mad Max: Fury Road won four awards, including: best costume and production design, editing, hair, and makeup.
Kate Winslet was dressed to impress, stunning the crowd in an elegant black fishtail gown. Kate certainly wowed the audience, as Eddie Redmayne presented her with the award for winning best supporting actress in film Steve Jobs. Kate recalled the harsh words of her teacher who said that she ‘might do ok’ if she was happy to ‘settle for fat girl parts.’ Last night she replied, “Look at me now.”
The only award voted for by the public was the Rising Star Award, won by the awesome Star Wars actor John Boyega. His huge fan base was instantly clear the moment he stepped onto the red carpet, with deafening cheers and shouting of which far-surpassed the level of cheering for any other celebrity.
The London-born actor was not merely modest but also inspirational in his reply: “I haven’t been doing this for a long time – it’s a fluke.” John added, “I’m going to share this with all the young dreamers who are determined and hard-working – this is for you.”
