Friends fans everywhere have been in frenzy over the rumours of an upcoming Friends reunion. The excitement has dulled somewhat since Matthew Perry’s spokesperson announced that Matthew would not be attending the reunion due to the fact that he will be in London rehearsing for his West End play. On Friday night’s Graham Norton show Matthew stated: ‘it is not the reunion everyone is hoping for – they are celebrating Jim Burrows, who was a director of Friends. The other five are going to be on this special, and I’m going to introduce them from London.’
Matthew Perry both wrote and plays a main part in the West End show, The End Of Longing. The play is to run from 2nd February until 14th May, with the official opening being on 11th February 2016. The play, of which is described as ‘fast-paced and bittersweet comic new play,’ is directed by Lindsay Posner.
The hugely successful show, Friends, lasted for 10 seasons, ending in 2004. Since this time, Friends fans have yearned for a reunion. Instead, the special of which airs on 21st February will include Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt Le Blanc. Sadly, Matthew Perry will not be there in person. That is so not cool!
The special that is to be shown on NBC is a tribute to Jim Burrows contribution to television, having shot his 1000th episode on television. Aside from Friends, American television director Jim Burrows is also accredited for co-creating directing the popular show Cheers. He has directed over 50 pilots, and additionally directed many other successful shows such as Frasier, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Two And A Half Men, and Will And Grace.
Nevertheless, after the long wait, this will still be a stellar event, as five out of six aint bad.
